Technology choices that are flexible,
cost-effective and interoperable

For the best part of 20 years, SCF’s technical work has focused on enabling an open, multivendor technology platform and lowering barriers to densification and the practical implementation of shared infrastructure.

Key drivers have always been about avoiding fragmentation and enabling interoperability.

SCF has driven the standardization of key elements of cellular network technology including Iuh, FAPI, nFAPI, SON, services APIs, TR-069 evolution and the enhancement of the X2 interface. We have also developed product definitions for small cell architectures and products and a 5G NR FR1 reference design.

Today our technical work is in continuing 5G FAPI development, developing a split 6 management solutions, providing quantitative assessments of disaggregated network performance and forging a 5G mmWave reference design.

SCF’s 2024 technical program

5G FAPI standard

Evolution and maintenance of our suite of 5G FAPI specifications, which underpins the high-performance low-cost components integral to 5G mobile base stations, whether small cell or macro.

5G mmWave reference design

Development of a FR2 minimum viable product, taking account of mmWave challenges & viable RAN splits.

Quantitative assessment of OpenRAN split architectures

The development of tools and analysis, aligning disaggregrated achitectures with real-world use cases.

Management solutions for split-6

In split 6 disaggregated mobile networks, developing management solutions for S-RU (Radio Unit) and S-DU (Distributed Unit) is crucial for efficient orchestration and optimization of network resources.

MOCN/MORAN/JOTS sharing options

Phase 1 towards a global sharing architecture. Led by our MNO and neutral host members, SCF is forging a global sharing framework that leverages global best practice and aims to reduce market fragmentation.
