URLLC and slicing in 5G small cell networks

This document describes how small cell networks can be used to meet the requirements of 5G-URLLC and network slicing use cases. A recurring theme of the paper is the inter-dependency of URLLC, network slicing, existing small cells networks and evolution to 5G high-density small cell networks. For services and applications that demand URLLC, RAN improvements in 5G, as well as RAN slicing, core slicing and orchestration solutions will closely follow deployment of 5G small cells. For 5G performance requirements to be achieved requires the deployment of dense networks of small cells that are URLLC and slicing capable.
