Femto Forum and Avren Events announce Femtocell Applications Live

World’s largest showcase of femtocell-based mobile applications open free of charge to press, analysts, operators, developers and Femtocell World Summit delegates

London, UK  – The Femto Forum, the independent industry association that supports femtocell deployment worldwide, alongside Avren Events, a leading producer of telecom conferences, today announced FEMTOCELL APPLICATIONS Live – a free event featuring live demonstrations of the latest femtocell-based mobile applications – which will take place on Tuesday 23rd June 2009, from 6pm-8pm, at the Femtocell World Summit in London. A media-only preview will take place earlier in the day at the same location.

The event will feature a series of live demonstrations of new mobile applications which will show how femtocells can power a new generation of presence-based services that go beyond what is currently possible. The event is open to the press, operators and the mobile application development community in addition to delegates attending the Femtocells World Summit.

The mobile applications on show take advantage of the ‘presence’ capabilities of femtocells and the ability to easily connect mobile phone users to the home network and the web via a high speed cellular connection. For example, when a consumer enters the home their phone can automatically receive personalised reminders from family members, upload their photos to their PC or download their favourite catch-up TV/podcasts.

“The aim of this event is to raise awareness to developers and the media of the potential of femtocells to power innovative new mobile applications and services. We’re eager to get feedback from developers about what they need in order to use the features of femtocells to form a powerful addition to the rapidly growing mobile applications business,” said Simon Saunders, Chairman of the Femto Forum.

Femtocell-powered applications offer tangible benefits for consumers, applications developers, operators and femtocell vendors. Consumers get access to a wide variety of services offered from home or office networks, mobile operator networks and on the web that make life simpler and more fun.  Femtocells also provide application developers with a new environment to monetize new or existing applications. Operators can also generate new service revenue and/or differentiate their proposition from competitors while also installing a base for a new generation of content distribution and home automation services. Femtocell vendors benefit by widening the appeal of their products.

Companies demonstrating femtocell-based mobile applications at the event include: Airvana, Alcatel Lucent, Huawei, Intrinsyc, ip.access, Mobica, Motorola, Pirelli Broadband Solutions, Sagem, SoftBank, Thomson and Ubiquisys.
